One of the most Consistent Beach Breaks in Costa Rica
The Spot: Playa Carmen is approx. 1.5km of beach break, mostly of white sand with the occasional rock outcropping. Main peaks are in front of Restaurante Playa Carmen, with more peaks spread out northward.
The Crowd: Mellow crowd, however can get busy during high season months Dec - April
Ideal Wave Height: This spot works from knee high to a couple feet overhead. Best around the chest to head high range.
X Factor: Due to the angle and underwater topography especially when there’s swell Playa Carmen will give you more of a shoulder burn than any of the other beach breaks around. Also watch out for surf schools and especially keep an eye out for unexperienced surf instructors and beginners bobbing in the lineup or on the inside.
